Protect your skin from direct sunlight, tanning beds, and self tanners for at least two weeks before treatment. Sunburned or recently tanned skin can increase the risk of unwanted side effects.

Stop using retinol, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C serums, and other potentially irritating skincare products about one week before your appointment, or as directed by your provider.

Come to your appointment without makeup, lotions, or fragrances on the treatment area. Let your provider know if you are taking medications that increase light sensitivity or if you have any recent skin concerns.

Mild redness, warmth, and slight swelling are common after treatment. Apply cool compresses as needed and use a gentle moisturizer to keep your skin comfortable during healing.

For the first several days, avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, facial waxing, and other activities that may irritate the treated area. Do not pick at darkened pigment or scabbing, as this is a normal part of the healing process.

Wear a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day and avoid direct sun exposure while your skin heals. Resume your regular skincare routine only after redness has resolved and your provider confirms it is appropriate.
